In the luxury class rolls for three years again strong material with sharp edges from Detroit. The Cadillac CT6 recently received the accolade to roll off the band a few more months ahead of schedule. In China, the production continues merrily anyway. Whether the two turbochargers of the Cadillac CT6 3.0 TT breathe life into lightweight construction in Europe, shows our driving report. 

Powerful, defined, sharp and comfortable - this is how Cadillac imagines a sporty luxury sedan. The demands of customers have grown in the balancing act between comfort and active driving feeling. A luxury sedan has to be an all-rounder, replacing the Porsche if necessary. In the US, Lincoln and Cadillac knew how to build a sedan for many years. With the Lincoln Town Car went in the early 2000s, the last real battleship from the shipyard. 

Test Cadillac CT6 3.0 TT: Scope is not equal to mass

For the Cadillac brand, the Lincoln case was a real threat to the segment. So the Detroiter finally found a compromise that also worked in Europe: the first series of the Cadillac CTS. Tested at the Nürburgring and praised by journalists for its clear handling, Cadillac could easily translate to Europe with the CTS.

A late descendant of this philosophy is the CT6. His visually striking luxury character, carved from a Stuttgart grandfather with a sharp blade, becomes a spell for the environment. Our test car, painted in "Crystal White Tricoat" with magnetism, captivates with LED dayruns pulled down, a Cadillac CT6 - a rare but desired sight on German roads - its formal similarity to the European competition gives it advantages, because the obscenity seems to the precious Ami lost. "The most elegant way to break with conventions" - says Cadillac.

A look through the panoramic glass roof reveals a deep black calming room with massages on all seats. Pickled woods cling to woven carbon fiber elements and the Panaray sound system's central speakers drive out of the dashboard. The ceremony is illuminated at the valance with dim light from the digital speedometer with night vision function, the central 10.2-inch touch screen shimmers next door, in the sky the rear-view mirror releases the view to the rear with additional HD video stream. Perforated leather on the dashboard and seams as far as the eye can see.

The seats are reminiscent of sinfully expensive massage chairs for seniors and offer good lateral support and even more features: roles, kneading and heating is only a sub-discipline of high-quality leather chairs. The headrests are accompanied by speakers of the magnificent Panaray sound system by Bose. Anyone who inserts his Motown Collection here will become the late ear witness of the studio production. Sound frequencies as defined in the CT6 are rarely found in this vehicle class. So rides become a wellness experience at all levels. Even the well-tuned suspension irons the road pleasantly smooth, without allowing unnecessary rolling movements.

Cadillac speaks modernity. A language that you first have to understand. Some comments go too far: like the safety alert in the driver's seat. By Cadillac means a system that warns of danger situations by vibration on the sides of the leather armchair. If you park for example and a vehicle could cross the path, a thigh massage follows on the corresponding side of the seat cushion. The first time you think, your own smartphone would have overvoltage, but then you feel used. Good that Cadillac better sorted his vocabulary elsewhere and kept his finger on it.

There is, for example, the pedestrian collision system, which reliably detects pedestrians and warns them if they could cross the path. If necessary, the system initiates full braking. The same applies to impending collisions with vehicles or obstacles ahead. Also a Abstandstempomat and a lane departure warning and a night vision function are on board the luxury lounge. The central 10.2 touchscreen or touchpad in the center console maneuver the extensive functions of the Detroit Dick ship.

A 4G LTE Internet connection with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot connects up to seven phones and also provides functions such as retrieving the current weather. There are retractable touchscreens on the back ranks to display blurays and storage media. The functions of the seats can also be controlled. Unfortunately, there is no way to dock via Bluetooth. To be able to project Youtube, Netflix and similar apps via Wi-Fi on your own smartphone on the rear screens - that would have really impressed.

The CT6 is agile but comfortable. Due to the short steering, he can move like a sporty mid-size sedan, but it has the directional stability of the luxury class. As an aid in city traffic supports an active rear-axle steering (standard from Platinum equipment). The drive is provided by six V-shaped cylinders, each of which receives its own forced ventilation. It is 417 hp, which brings the charming American in the four-wheel drive. At 555 Newton-meters of torque, one can speak of impressive power delivery, which is passed through the dynamic power distribution to the wheels. In 5.7 seconds, the sleek living room to 100 km / h, up to 250 kilometers per hour accelerates the CT6 sovereign.

The result is a safe to sporty driving feel, which is also defined by the lightweight construction, which combines 13 aluminum castings using high-strength steel to form a high-strength frame. Depending on the variant, the empty weight is only around 1700 to 2000 kilograms. Tired, on the other hand, is the eight-speed automatic, which, while in sports mode, shifts as if by hand, but undercharges the turbocharger in overrun with low engine speeds and cylinder deactivation. After all, it saves fuel: The Cadillac CT6 does not want to drink more than 14 liters in species-appropriate movement. In relaxed everyday life, it is scarce 12 liters. Whether that matters when buying a 417-hp luxury sedan depends on the gentleness and purse of the driver.

The latter is a bit spared by the Cadillac CT6 after all: From 73 500 euros is the beautiful American to have, extras like in our test car bring the price to the six-digit limit. The CT6 can quite replace a luxury sedan of the competition. With extensive comfort features, class-typical workmanship and impeccable handling, it shines in our driving report. The weaknesses are partly in the operation and the accessibility. If you want to maintain a real relationship with your luxury sedan, CT6 is a good choice.
